Here are the highlights of what happened on the reserve in May.
2nd May – A stoat was captured on camera climbing up to one of the veteran alder trees.
7th May – A small team of volunteers worked incredibly hard to prepare the ground for the first tansy plants, kindly donated by Beninbrough Hall.
10th May – We held guided walks around the reserve, as part of Little Ouseburn Open Gardens.
11th May – Children from Great Ouseburn Primary School planted the first tansy plants, as part of ‘Nature Club’ run by our very own trustee Kate Yates.
21st May – Our first balsam pulling volunteering session of the year!’
22nd May – School pupil Ethan (age 7) got a special invitation to Dame Judi Dench’s house along with his family, including his Mum (and teacher!) trustee Lou Rayner. Ethan gave Judi an oak sapling grown from the oak in the new school field and Judi gave Ethan an oak sapling, grown from her garden!
29th May – A group of volunteers planted over 240 tansy plug plants, kindly donated to us from John Barnard at Tophill Low Nature Reserve.
31st May – The UOCT team enjoyed chatting to visitors at the Great Ouseburn Garden Festival. Thank you to everyone who came!
