The purchase has OFFICIALLY gone through and the Upper Ouse Conservation Trust are now the incredibly proud new owners of Townend Field; protecting the land for the community, for education and of course, for nature.
Dame Judi Dench has recorded a second video, just months after urging the public to get behind our campaign to purchase Townend Field. She is said to be ‘delighted,’ particularly at saving the old Oak tree that will soon be within the boundary of the new designated school field! We are incredibly grateful to Dame Judi for her wonderful support and as such, we will be naming one of the footpaths in the nature reserve ‘Judi’s Walk’ in honour of such a kind and special lady, with a passion for trees and wildlife. Don’t forget to follow us on social media and get in touch to celebrate with us – we couldn’t have done it without you all!
Please note that the field cannot be accessed by the public at this time. There is a lot of work to do, including arranging insurance, vital wildlife and nature surveying, footpaths, fencing for the school, repairs to the wall, gateways, signage… the list goes on! Please do consider supporting us in any way that you can.. the hard work really does start now, but we cannot wait to let everyone enjoy this beautiful space later in the year. It will be worth waiting for!
