February Roundup

The 2nd in our monthly round-up video series this year, helped to be created by some of our brilliant supporters! February has been mostly wet, with almost every day seeing some level of rain! But it hasn’t stopped us from capturing the natural beauty and activity at the reserve. As the month went on, sunshine also made an appearance and it has felt like spring is on its’ way! Here are a few highlights;

4th and 5th February – Nick Voakes and his team installed the school fence, allowing space for a native hedgerow to be planted in the autumn around the outside on the school grounds rented from the trust. They have done a fantastic job!

21st February – Suzy Ker captured a brilliant photograph of the MANY molehills in Townend Field!

23rd February – Land artist James Brunt did a day-long workshop with children from Year 1 through to Year 6 at Great Ouseburn Primary School, with special permission from the trustees to use The Grove for their artwork.

24th February – A bespoke welly storage rack was installed on the school fenceline to help remove barriers to children being able to use their field and the reserve year-round at the school.

26th February – School pupil (and the first person to donate money to the UOCT) Ethan Rayner, age 7, captured a red kite flying over Townend Field, from the school playground on his way into school.

27th February – Trustee and Mum at the school, Kate Yates, led children in Year 3 and 4 in a special Science lesson, looking at the trees on The Grove.

You can also see our round-up from January here.

Can you help us to create future videos? Simply capture anything that interests you at Townend Field Nature Reserve in a landscape-orientation photograph or short video (around 5 seconds is fine – we can cut it down for you,) and e-mail it to info@uoct.org.uk

Thank you!
Lou Rayner – Trustee (communications and social media)
